5 Fun Alternatives to Family Movie Night

Have you watched every family-friendly movie on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus? Memorized every scene of Trolls World Tour? Eaten your body weight in popcorn? No judgement here – it’s been a long year!

Here are five alternatives to Family Movie Night at home that are just as fun!

Take an Art Class together:

There is something therapeutic about drawing or painting after a long week of work or school, even if you aren’t really an artist! On-demand art classes fit into your schedule and are fun for the whole family.

Bake up a sweet treat

What’s better than a weekend night decorating cookies or cupcakes? Not only is it super fun, but you get a tasty reward at the end. Make it even more entertaining by creating a theme or game to your decorating – whether it’s Disney characters or seasonal holiday themes. On-demand cooking or baking classes are a good way to learn new skills together in the kitchen, too.

Experiment with Science

Learn weather science with Engineering for Kids of Kern

Change the perspective that science is all academic and boring. Getting hands-on with STEM projects at home with your kids can be fun for all ages. Instead of learning about weather science in a book, create clouds in a jar and queue the “wow, that’s so cool”. On-demand STEM activities are available for most ages and can be enjoyed as a family.

Build something together

Roll up your sleeves and spend some quality time building something together. Working on a project as a family is a great way to connect and have conversations with your kids in a low-pressure environment. The best part is you will have a tangible item to remind you of the time you spent together.

Get Crafty

On-Demand Girl Scouts Workshop: Pumpkin Crafts with Discover Science Center

If you have movie fatigue, break out the craft supplies. Instead of watching your kids favorite characters sing on-screen for the 2,536th time this year, create puppet versions of Poppy and Branch and have your kids put on a show! Or, use the time together to decorate for any seasonal holiday or make special gifts for family.

ActivityHero Launches On-Demand Enrichment For Children at Home

Parents’ need for flexible enrichment drives new product launch to offer quality content to fit any schedule. ActivityHero now offers on-demand, live online and in-person classes and camps.

School is back in session, but hybrid and virtual days have many families scrambling for activities to fill unexpected gaps in daily learning. ActivityHero had already successfully adapted its business in March as COVID-19 shut down in-person camps to offer live online classes for children at home.

Now with families seeking more flexible solutions for enrichment activities, ActivityHero is once again expanding the platform to launch On-Demand content for kids.

“This summer, over 35,000 children attended an online class or camp through one of ActivityHero’s hundreds of activity partners,” said CEO and Co-Founder Peggy Chang. “But when school started back, we recognized the need to develop an on-demand platform that offers high-quality content to kids anytime, anywhere.”

ActivityHero On-Demand launches November 10th with pre-recorded videos and printable activities for children, ranging in price from free to $15. A wide variety of topics is available for instant access from quality educators, including Stanford Libraries, Little Medical School, Young Rembrandts, and Engineering for Kids.

“Stanford Libraries are excited by this opportunity to engage younger students through interactive learning experiences that foster map reading and analysis,” said Andria Olson, Stanford Map Librarian.

“ActivityHero On-Demand is a great way for Little Medical School to provide our hands-on classes when children want it and parents need it,” said Little Medical School Founder Dr. Mary Mason. “Our unique curriculum can be delivered in a very engaging way for kids wanting educational entertainment at any time and anywhere.”

Organizations and teachers are able to add their content to ActivityHero On-Demand and earn money from purchases. ActivityHero reviews all content to ensure it is appropriate for children.

ActivityHero recognizes that supporting children’s education and enrichment isn’t a one size fits all solution.

“If your child prefers the interaction and socialization of live classes, our platform offers over 1,500 live online classes in art, music, mindfulness, LEGO®, academic support, and more. In-person camps, after school activities, and learning pods are also available in select locations when they follow safety protocols,” said Chang.

Scholarships are available on ActivityHero for children who demonstrate a financial need for both online and local activities. You can view all classes, camps and on-demand activities at https://www.activityhero.com.
