Let’s face it, some days kids just don’t want to move… and I can’t say I blame them.
But part of a healthy lifestyle is keeping kids active. As parents, we need to make sure that we are motivating our kids to stay healthy & happy.
When we move, we feel better.
Here’s some ideas of fun activities that are secretly exercises for kids:
Some days it’s hard to unplug the kids from the tube. Saturday mornings are especially tough in our house because my son wouldn’t dare miss an episode of Ninja Turtles.
Instead of sitting on the couch, set out some exercise balls and see who can balance the longest. Even sitting still on an exercise ball works the core, much better than melting into a couch cushion!
This is a timeless activity that is perfect for a rainy day.
Gather the pillows and cushions and scatter them across the floor. Kids have to jump from cushion to cushion like stepping stones avoiding the ground.
Ok, so “chores” are pretty much the antithesis of “fun” to most kids, but hear me out.
Chores might not exactly something that will get kids jumping out of their seats, but throw some incentive in there and they just may.
Things like mowing the lawn, raking leaves, and vacuuming can be a great way to not only get moving but instill some responsibility in your child. If they resist, offer an incentive like watching their favorite movie or making their favorite dinner as a reward.
Time to recycle those old boxes, spare tires, and miscellaneous garage items–and make them into a fun obstacle course!
Cut holes in boxes to make tunnels, jump through tires, be creative and think like a kid to create a fun course for children.
Build a Fort
Where the coolest place to be as a kid? A fort, of course!
Encourage your child to assemble the fort himself, but help as much as needed. Gather blankets, sheets, pillows, and create the ultimate fort for your child.
Not only will it get him moving, but it will keep him occupied for a good amount of time.
How do you get your kids moving? Let us know!
